"We look forward to this course so much; it's a fixture in our diary round which the whole year revolves!"
Alison Kinder read music at Oxford University and was then awarded a scholarship by Trinity College of Music where she studied viol with Alison Crum. She has twice been accepted onto the Brighton Early Music Festival young artists' scheme BrEMF Live! with viol consort Chelys and Baroque flute trio Triptych. She is a founder member of Passamezzo with whom she performs regularly on viols and recorders. Alison has recently become a member of Sestina viol consort and gave her first concert with them at Poole's Lighthouse Arts Centre with Emma Kirkby in November 2008. She also plays with recorder trio sonata ensemble Saltarello.
Alison is a keen teacher and is founder and director of the Early Music for Youth Summer School, a residential summer school for young viol and recorder players. She is also a tutor at the Norvis summer school in Durham, the Viola da Gamba Society's Summer Weekend Course, and on viol courses at the Farncombe Estate. Alison teaches viol and violin both privately and in schools, and directs the Warwickshire Youth Waits, a Renaissance band for young players which includes everything from recorders and viols to crumhorns, shawms, rebecs and more! For the last two years the Waits have played at the International Early Music Exhibition in Greenwich, giving very successful recitals for the Early Music Shop.
Alison has had a number of educational music books published with colleague and fellow viol player Jacqui Robertson-Wade. They include teaching material for viols, recorders and modern strings, and a children's music theory series called The Notehouse People.
